Burnham Race Reports

Rounds 13 and 14       19th August 2007

Eighteen riders from Tiverton BMX Club took part in rounds 13 and 14 of the South West regional series at Burnham-on-Sea.
In the 6 under age group the tension was very high between Josh Coppin and Ryan O’Loughlin, both rode exceptional races with Ryan taking the win in several motos, Josh is going to have to watch his behind now after winning on points alone today with Ryan very close in 2nd.
In the 9 year olds Tiverton had three riders, Eddie Moore, Connor Cutler and Elliot Norrish. Eddie and Elliot were consistent in both rounds with Eddie 2nd and Elliot 6th, while Connor took 3rd and 5th.
In the 11/12 age group there were four riders from Tiverton, Oliver Fay, Callum Webber, Bethan Hallett and Josh Moore, all having to qualify through the semi finals, in round 13 Oliver took 1st, Callum 3rd, Bethan 6th and Josh 8th while in round 14, Callum 1st, Oliver 2nd, Josh 4th and Bethan 8th.
Sam Hann and Liam Webber raced well in 13/14 age group, both making the A finals, Sam took 3rd and 2nd with Liam 8th in both rounds.
In 15/16 age group, Jason Fay and Ben Blake raced hard with Jason having the upper hand taking 1st with Ben 2nd and 3rd.
In 25+ Dereck Cutler put on a good show taking 2nd and 6th with Ian Wheeler 9th and 7th. Ian also took 2nd in both rounds in 24 – 29 cruiser class.
Shannon Blake rode well in 7 – 9 girls taking 4th and 3rd while Paula Hallett in 30-39 cruiser took 6th in the B final in round 13 and 8th in the A final in the final round.


Regional Round 1              7th May 2006

Last weekend saw the first race in the South West Regional series; a staggering 26 riders from Tiverton BMX Club made the trip to Burnham for the second weekend in a row.
Michael Pearce, Tivertons youngest rider, raced along with Ryan Allington in the 9 under novices, Ryan took 1st place throughout with Michael just behind in 5th. Joe Northam-Nowell raced in 10+ novices but took a fall in the third moto and was unable to continue.
Expert racing kicked off with the 7-9 girls, Shannon Blake raced extremely well finishing in 4th place.
The fight was on between Eddie Moore and Connor Cutler in the 8 year olds, Eddie had the edge and took 1st leaving Connor to settle for 2nd.
Josh Moore raced in the 10 year olds but had to be content with 3rd overall.
Bethan Hallett had an easy ride taking 1st place throughout.
Oliver Fay, racing up this year and along side his brother Elliot and Callum Webber, in the 11’s. Oliver and Callum both took 1st place throughout their motos with Elliot in 5th. Connor had the upper hand and took 1st place in the A final with Oliver in 5th. Elliot raced well and took 4th place in the B final.
In the 12’s Tiverton had George Hughes, racing for the first time as an expert, he fought hard to take 6th overall.
Sam Hann, Connor Hallett, Liam Webber and Liam Pearce all rode in the 13 year old age group, Sam was on fire today coming from the back of the pack to finish in 1st place in all his motos as did Connor while Liam Pearce and Liam Webber were 4th and 5th respectively. The A final was exciting with Sam flying over the line in 1st with Connor 4th Liam Pearce 5th. Liam Webber qualified for the B final which proved to be the most exciting race of the day, with only two riders it was nip and tuck all the way, first one was in front then the other, Liam came up just short on the line and had to settle for 2nd.
Elly Skinner, raced a steady race in the 13-15 girls, she took 4th place throughout.
Great racing in the 15-year-old age group, with Ben Blake and Jason Fay. Ben took 1st place through his motos with Jason in 2nd, all changed in the final with Jason in 2nd and Ben 5th after being blocked in, Luke Copley-Wilkins raced in the 16’s, he did well managing 7th place in all his motos and 4th in the B final.
Tivertons Ladies raced well, Mandy Cutler and Paula Hallett finished 1st and 4th respectively.
Peter Moore raced in both the 24-29 cruisers and 25+ men’s, he took the cruiser class by storm finishing in 1st while in the 25+ he finished a very respectable 3rd with Dan Pearce ripping it up 1st all the way.
In the 30+ cruisers Tivertons Dereck Cutler put in an excellent performance finishing 1st in all the motos and 5th in the final.
Excellent racing from all of Tivertons riders. 

 

Regional Round 2              15th May 2005
Burnham were the hosts for round two of the South West Regional series with over 150 riders from across the region. Tiverton BMX Club had 5 novices and 21 experts taking part.
Tivertons youngest rider Michael Pearce featured in the first novice group along with Elliot Norrish, Elliot and Michael rode well both taking 1st place overall in their own age groups.
The 11 - 12 novices saw Liam Pearce, Liam Webber and Callum Thomas racing together, Liam Pearce rode a steady race taking 2nd place in all the motos and final, Liam Webber closely behind in 3rd and Callum in 6th throughout.
Tiverton had 1st and 2nd in the 7 year old experts, Connor Cutler took 1st place in all his motos as did Eddie Moore but the fight was on when they met in the finals with Eddie having the upper hand and Connor having to settle for 2nd.
Rebecca Hill and Shannon Blake rode in the 7 - 9 girls, they finished 2nd and 7th respectively.
Josh Moore had a tough race in the 8 year olds, he had 2nd, 1st, 2nd in the motos, the finals proved difficult and he had to be content with 2nd place overall.
Oliver Fay rode in style to take his usual 1st place in the 9's with his brother Elliot riding a steady race in the 10 year old age group to finish 6th. Callum Webber also featured in the 10's, racing for the first time as an expert, he rode a great race taking 2nd throughout. Whilst in the 11's Daniel Hill rode well to finish 1st.
In the 10 - 12 girls, Bethan Hallett had a great first moto taking 1st but although always on the heels of the lead rider, had to be content with 2nd place overall.
The fight was on between two Tiverton riders in the 12's Sam Hann and Connor Hallett were neck and neck throughout, Sam took the first two motos and Connor fought back to take the third moto and final, Connor taking 1st place overall leaving Sam with 2nd.
Jason Fay and Ben Blake had a tough race in the highly competitive 14 year old age group, against 18 other riders, they faced each other through the motos and again in the semi, both made it through to the A final. The final proved very exciting with Jason finishing 1st Ben 3rd.
Jay Gallaway stormed through his motos and final to finish 1st, whilst in the 17+ it was elbow to elbow all the way for Dean Bird who had to settle for 7th place overall.
Peter Moore rode well in the 25+ group, Pete maintained a steady 2nd place through the motos but crossed the line in 3rd place in the final.
Tivertons Ladies had a good day, Mandy Cutler and Paula Hallett raced well finishing 1st and 3rd respectively. Steve Jenks featured in the 40+ Cruisers, he rode well taking 1st place overall.

 

National Round 1               1st May 2005

May bank holiday weekend saw the first round of the British national bmx series at Burnham bmx club, the racing was hard and fast with over 450 riders in attendance on a tough course with some new obstacles which caught more than a few riders, one being Tiverton rider Dan Pearce, in the 19+ category get well soon.

 

Tiverton club fared well finishing 4th out of  the 35 clubs with 19 expert riders and 1 novice, competing in various age categories. Highlights of the day were Eddie Moore finishing second in the 6s, his brother Josh Moore winning the 7s category. Following this was the first of the Fay brothers, Oliver, winning the 9s category, Elliott Fay made a good recovery to finish 13th in the 10s.

 

This year saw the introduction of double age groups from the 11s upwards so the categories were going to be a lot tougher for the riders. With 40 riders in the  11s – 12s, Connor Hallet finished 14th, Daniel Hill 15th and Sam Hann 27th, In the  13s – 14s Jason Fay and Ben Blake had a tough race with 44 riders in this group, Jason was 10th, Ben 12th. In the 15s - 16s only one rider Jay Galloway he finished 15th.  In the 17+ renamed 'Junior Men' saw Dean Bird finish in 12th with Oliver Owen in 23rd. In the 7 – 9 girls Tiverton  had good rides from Rebecca Hill and Shannon Blake finishing 3rd and 7th, In the 10 -12 Girls Bethan Hallett just missed out on the win to finish second.  Next the 25+ lady’s, Tiverton had 2 riders, Mandy Cutler and Paula Hallett both doing very well finishing 5th and 7th and finally Steve Jenks competing in the 40+ category finished 6th.

Also worthy of a mention is Callum Webber, racing his first national in the novice class finishing a respectable 2nd place.

Regional Round 5              4th July 2004
Twenty Six riders from Tiverton BMX Club travelled to Burnham on the 4th July for Round 5 of the South West Regional series.
Tiverton had four novice racers today, Adam and Matt Gerrard rode in the 11 - 14 novice group, Adam took them by surprise by taking 1st all the way with Matt in 6th overall.
In the 6 under novices we had Callum Govier and Shannon Blake, Callum had a great day taking 1st place with Shannon in 6th overall.
Josh and Eddie Moore both rode exceptional races today, Josh took 1st place in the first two motos but had to settle for 2nd overall with Eddie, Tiverton's youngest rider, maintaining a steady 4th throughout.
Oliver Fay was chased all the way but held on to his 1st place in the 8 year olds.
The 7 - 9 girls, held no surprises, Bethan Hallett 1st, Emma Coles 2nd, Rebecca Hill 3rd and Deyonne Gallagher 4th.
Elliot Fay rode a steady race in the 9 year olds, although he slipped a pedal he managed 6th place overall.
In the 10 year olds, we had Daniel Hill and Troy Gallagher, Daniels lead was threatened by Troy today, the final proved a close thing Troy closing the gap with every turn of his pedal. Daniel 1st, Troy 2nd.
In the 11's Connor Hallett stole the show, Connor rode a steady 3rd place throughout his motos along with Sam Hann in 6th and Rhyan Williams 8th but what a final. Connor had a bad start and had a lot of catching up to do, which he did, one by one he past every rider, the final straight saw three riders neck and neck to the finish line, to the cheers of the crowd, Connor gave it that bit more to storm across the line in a well deserved 1st place.
In the 12's we had Ben Blake, he maintained 4th place throughout. Jay Gallaway cruised into 1st place in the 15 year olds. Dean Bird, Sam Fowler and Oliver Owen raced each other in the 16 year age group, Dean 1st, Sam 2nd and Oliver 3rd.
In the lady cruisers we had Mandy Cutler and Paula Hallett, Paula got an excellent gate in the second moto and crossed the line in 2nd place, leaving Mandy with 3rd. Overall Mandy took 2nd place with Paula in 4th.
30 + cruisers featured Dereck Cutler and Steve Jenks, Dereck rode well to take 2nd in all the motos with Steve in 4th, in the final Dereck maintained his 2nd place with Steve behind in 6th.

 

Burnham Winter Series

27th December 2003

Eight of our riders took part, Oliver Fay and Emma Coles gave it their best shot, in the 8 - 9's group, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Sam Hann and Troy Gallagher in the 10 - 11yrs, both raced well, Sam took 4th in the final, Troy 5th.  In the 12 - 13yrs, we had Jason Fay, Sam Coles and Ben Blake, all rode well, Jason  managed 4th in the final, Sam 5th and Ben 7th. Everyone had a surprise when Dereck Cutler took to the start hill and beat them all in every moto and the final. Look out cruisers you have new competition.

 

13th March 2004

Eight riders took part in round two at Burnham on Sunday, Oliver Fay and Emma Coles, in the 8-9 age group, Oliver managed 3rd with Emma just behind in 4th. Sam Hann, in the 10-11 age group,  rode hard and achieved a steady 3rd in all his motos and the final leaving Troy Gallagher to settle for 4th.  Jason Fay, Sam Coles and Ben Blake had a tough race, in the 12-13 age group, Jason finished 3rd with Sam behind in 5th. Ben took 5th in all the motos but it wasn't enough to take him to the final.

 

17th April 2004

Twelve riders took part in round three at Burnham on Saturday. 

In the under 7's we had Rebecca Hill, Josh and Eddie Moore and new rider Deyonne Gallagher. Rebecca had a great race taking 2nd in the first moto and the final, Josh took 2nd in the third moto and the 4th in the final with Deyonne and Eddie in 6th and 7th respectively. 
In the next group we had Oliver Fay and Emma Coles, they both raced well, Oliver came 2nd all the way through and Emma 3rd. 
In the 11yr old section, the boys rode consistently, Daniel Hill 3rd all the way to the final, Sam Hann 4th and Troy Gallagher 7th. 
In the 12's Sam Coles rode well taking 3rd in all the motos but had to be content with 4th in the final. 
Jason Fay and Ben Blake both rode up in the 13 age group, Jason rode a great race taking 2nd in the first two motos and 1st in the remaining moto and final. Ben came 4th throughout but had to settle for 6th in the final.
