R1 South West Winter Series   -   Tiverton 8th October 2006

There was a great turnout of riders at Tiverton BMX Club last Sunday for the first round in the South West Winter series. Mixed age groups, novices, girls and experts all racing together, lead to some fantastic riding and semi finals.
Seven Tiverton riders in the 8 years and under, Eddie Moore, Ryan Allington and Shannon Blake all raced well in the motos and through to the semis to qualify for the A final, with Eddie finishing in 5th, Ryan 7th and Shannon in 8th. While Elliot Norrish, Sam Harley and Michael Pearce qualified for the B final, Elliot took 1st, Sam 2nd and Michael 4th. Ethan Jones, in his first ever race, went out in the motos.
In the 9-12 age group Tiverton had five riders, Oliver Fay, Bethan Hallett, Callum Webber, Jack Knapton and Josh Moore, all rode well with all five making the semi finals, Josh Moore took a well deserved 3rd place in the B final while in the A final Oliver took 1st, Callum 4th, Jack 6th and Bethan 7th.
Six Tivvy riders in 13-15 age group, Sam Hann, Lee Green, Robbi Knapton, Jason Fay, Connor Hallett and Liam Webber. Jason took the lead throughout the motos and 2nd in the A final, Sam took 4th, while in the B final, Connor took an early lead to finish 1st with Lee 4th, Robbi 6th and Liam 7th.
Only one Tiverton BMX Club rider was brave enough to try the 16+ payback race, Ben Blake. Ben rode well through the motos taking 5th, 2nd and 3rd, but with prize money at stake everyone really gave it their best shot and Ben had to settle for 6th in the A final.
25+ no clips only attracted one Tiverton rider, Peter Moore, who won it with ease, while Paula Hallett, Ian Wheeler and Chris Hibbert featured in the mixed cruiser group. All three qualified for the B final with Ian taking 2nd, Paula 5th and Chris 6th.

Regional Round 2  -  Tiverton 28th May 2006

A great atmosphere and great results at Tiverton BMX Club last Sunday for Round 2 of the South West Regional series.
Ryan Allington ran away with 1st place in the 9 under novices along with Michael Pearce in 6th and Brian Filasky in 7th, whilst in the 10-14 novices Tiverton had Brothers Jack and Robbi Knapton and Joe Northan-Nowell, Joe had the advantage finishing in 2nd with Jack 3rd and Robbi 6th.
Three riders featured in the 8 year old experts, Connor Cutler, Elliot Norrish and Eddie Moore; Connor rode well to finish in 4th overall with Elliot 6th. Eddie, recovering from illness, had to pull out and was unable to continue, while brother Josh had a tough race in the 10’s, he took 2nd, 1st and 2nd in the moto’s but had to be content with 4th in the A final.
Oliver Fay rode an excellent race in the 11 year olds but was closely followed by Callum Webber, Oliver and Callum both stormed their moto’s taking 1st’s all the way, it was nip and tuck when they faced each other in the final with Oliver having the edge taking 1st with Callum on his heels in 2nd. Elliot Fay finished 2nd in the B final.
In the 12-year-old age group George Hughes raced a steady race taking 5th overall.
Tensions raised in the 13’s with Connor Hallett, Sam Hann, Liam Pearce and Liam Webber. Sam gained 1st place in the first moto with Connor in 2nd, the second moto proved fatal for Sam as he took flying lessons straight over the second berm, overall Connor took 2nd, Sam 3rd, Liam Pearce 7th and Liam Webber 8th.
Bethan Hallett, now racing up an age group in the 13-15 girls, raced a very steady race taking 4th through the moto’s and achieved a great 3rd place in the final to finish 3rd overall. In the 7-9 girls, Shannon Blake, steadily improving finishing in 4th.
Ben Blake was on fire in the 15 year olds, he raced hard taking 1st place throughout the moto’s and 2nd in the final but he worked hard enough to gain 1st overall.
Peter Moore featured in both men’s 25+ and 25-29 Cruiser, he stole the show in his bright yellow race suit, taking 1st all the way in both races.
Paula Hallett raced in Lady Cruisers; she raced well to finish in 2nd overall.

Another SW1 plate to add to his collection as 9 year old Oliver Fay crossed the line in 1st place, while brother Elliot rode with Callum Webber in the 10 year old age group, both rode great races Callum finished in 3rd overall, Elliot 7th.

Bethan Hallett put up a good fight in the 10-12 girls but had to settle for 2nd. Daniel Hill,11, held off all his rivals to take 1st place while the fight was on in the 12's, Connor Hallett and Sam Hann were joined by Liam Webber and Liam Pearce, the two Liams were involved in the best two rider B-final I have ever witnessed, it was pedal to pedal all the way, first one in front then the other, it could so easily have gone either way but Liam Pearce crossed the line first to take 9th overall with Liam Webber in 10th. The A-final also proved exciting with Sam having the edge taking 4th, Connor 5th.

Dan Pearce and Peter Moore met again, this time in the 25 - 29 cruisers, Dan left a trail of dust for Peter as he took his second SW1 plate of the day and Pete reluctantly had to settle for 2nd. The stakes are high between these two riders as their regional position can only be decided in the last race as there is only 0.1 point between them.
The largest age group, the 14's featured Ben Blake and Jason Fay, both had fantastic motos, 1st all the way. Ben gained the advantage in the semi, finishing 1st with Jason 2nd, Ben stormed the final leaving all seven riders behind, Jason had to be content with 2nd.

Easter Classic 11th April @ Tiverton
A fantastic Easter Eggstravaganza was held at Tiverton BMX Club on Easter Sunday, to mark the start of the racing season in the South West, attracting many riders from across the region.
Regional style races were also held. In the 7's under class we had Connor Cutler who maintained a steady 5th through all the motos and the final.
In the 8yrs boys Dolton Ashton gave them all some dust to choke on by finishing 1st all the way to the final.
In the 9 - 10 yrs class, we had Bethan Hallett, Daniel Stevens, racing for the first time, and Rhyan Williams. Bethan, the only girl in this group, showed the boys how its done by taking 2nd in the first two motos and 4th in the final leaving Rhyan and Daniel 5th and 6th respectively.

Four of our riders took part in the 11 - 12 age group, Ben Blake, Connor Hallett, Sam Hann (Bacon) and the only girl, Lauren Gardener-Wright.  Ben rode well taking 1st in the first and third moto and 3rd in the final, Connor came 1st in the second moto and gained 2nd place in the final.  Sam took a tumble in the second moto and rode over a fallen rider to take 4th in the final. Lauren had to be content with 5th.

Luke Fowler was our only rider in the 13-14 age group, he rode well and managed 6th.

The ladies had younger competition today and a new rider, Mandy Cutler racing for the first time, gave Paula Hallett a hard time. Mandy finished 3rd  and Paula 4th.

The 15+ group had many ages mixed together and heavy competition. Jay Gallaway racing again after injuries last season, proved he was back to full fitness by gaining 2nd and 3rd in the last two motos and 2nd in the final. Peter Moore took 2nd place in the first moto but after a collision had to settle for 6th in the final. Sam Fowler rode well in the first moto, finishing 4th but after his fall in the egg race he was unable to ride in the final. There were tussles on the track between Dean Bird and Dereck Cutler, Dean almost pushed Dereck from the track to take 1st for himself and Dereck returned the favour by cutting off Deans path and riding on to take 1st in the third moto. In the final Dean rode across the line in 1st place and Dereck took a tumble and had to settle for 7th.

A BMX version of the egg and spoon race, the likes of which have never been seen before, a plastic cup with a hard boiled egg stuck to your helmet, it doesn't sound so hard? but trying to ride the track with your egg still in place took skill.
The younger and slower riders had the advantage due to their steady pace but as we got to the 10+ ages eggs were flying everywhere!  Riders had to stop and collect their eggs (or bits!) before carrying on, much laughter roared around the track.
Cheating took place in the 15+ group, glue was used to hold the egg in place but to no avail, as they jumped the 1st so did the eggs! We had the most spectacular crash during this race, Sam Fowler pulled off a full somersault over the 1st, thankfully only bruised but he lost his egg!

The slow race had to be seen to be believed, it was a concept some riders didn't quite grasp, the idea was to cross the line last.  The younger riders threw their fist in the air in triumph as they crossed the line 1st, only to realise this meant they were last! no-one was disappointed as there were Easter Egg prizes for everyone, the many but unusual shouts of  "slow down"  and they soon got the idea, crawling down the finish straight at a snails pace, trying not to put their feet down, not an easy task. Many riders were disqualified for riding slow from the start, Dean Bird had the right idea, he "bunny hopped" sideways all the way down the finish straight.

Easter Eggs were awarded for everyone who took part, there was chocolate galore. It was a great day and alot of fun, many thanks to all that helped and made the day run smoothly.
Apologies to anyone who was sick on the way home!

Tiverton 11th January 2004

Our riders faired well on their home track, with 50 other riders to compete against. In the 6 and under group we had George Fowler and Connor Cutler, both novice riders, George managed 4th in the final, Connor, racing for the first time, he maintained a steady 6th in the motos and 5th in the final.
In 7 - 8yrs a mixed race of girls and boys, we had Oliver Fay, Bethan Hallett, Emma Coles, Dolton Ashton, Elliot Fay and Rebecca Hill. Oliver, Bethan, Emma and Dolton all made it through to the A Final, finishing 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th respectively. In the B - final Elliot Fay managed 4th, Rebecca Hill 5th.
9 - 10 age group proved tough, competing against stiff opposition, Daniel Hill made it to the A-final and finished 3rd, behind him were Troy Gallagher in 6th and Connor Hallett, who took a tumble in the final, crossing the line in 8th. Sam Hann and Hugh Baillie were in the B - final with Sam taking 1st, Hugh following in 3rd.
Ben Blake and Sam Coles were back in form, along with Jason Fay and Luke Harris. Ben and Sam raced hard, it was neck and neck all the way but Ben had the upper hand today taking 1st in all the motos leaving Sam to settle for 2nd. In the final  Jason Fay rode home in 1st, Ben Blake 3rd, Sam Coles 4th and Luke Harris in 7th.
In 15+ we had Dean Bird and Sam Fowler, Dean took a fall in the first moto but recovered to come in 4th, he took 1st in all remaining motos and 4th in the final with Sam bring up the rear in 7th.
Dereck Cutler is giving the cruisers a run for their money, he finished 1st overall leaving Pete Moore with 2nd place and Paula Hallett 6th.

Many thanks to everyone that helped on the day and we'll look forward to seeing you all at Exeter on 25th January, for part two of this combined race where the final points will be added and trophies awarded.
